This show will feature the story of Papageno and Papagena (PapaGAY-no, PapaGAY-nah) from Mozart’s “Magic Flute.” It is a multilayered story, and a great tale of love, and growth. We have been rehearsing pretty much every day for many weeks. The piece has grown and changed through the rehearsals as we edit bits out and find out what the story is really about. That’s the things with stories like this; stories that have roots or connections to myth and folk tales change in the telling. They are not nailed down, engraved in stone or caught static on the page, but live and breath in the telling. The musical sound scape Kelly is working on is fabulous. We have had a set of external ears listen to it (thanks Kristin P), which resulted in Kelly tweaking it some, improving it. All three of us are very excited to perform this new piece. We would love to take it on the road, but that will have to wait until it is safe to do so. We will also each be telling a tale of myth, folk lore and legend - the Legend of St. Valentines hidden inside the tale of St. Valentine within the story of the Lord of Coventry (Megan), Persephone (Kelly), and the Selkie's Farewell (Simon).
