Dear
Storytelling Fans and Friends,
Just a quick
note this month to keep you up to date with my gigs and what not!
Everyone seems
to be feeling the pinch this year. In times like this, storytelling
should fare better than other performing arts. Or at least I hope
so! What? I hear you cry!
Here are four
reasons as described by storyteller Meghan Hicks:
-Storytellers
are a 'cheap date'
-Storytellers
are simple to produce, we come in ones and twos instead
of quartets and troupes
-Give
a storyteller a microphone (if needed) and a bottle of water (if
needed) and most are ready to hit the ground running (and if the
power goes out, we can still perform)
-A good
storyteller can transport audiences the same way they are transported
by a good stage production, or movie
In times like this, people
want, crave, and need diversion. It is a well known fact that
Hollywood thrived during the Great Depression, to great surprise.
As a storyteller, we are Hollywood on wheels! There is no substitute
for live storytelling. As an African elder once said, "The
television knows a lot of stories, but the storyteller knows us."
(Thanks Meghan!)
I look forward
to seeing you at a performance. Remeber to say 'hi'!

CDs
Support your local storyteller, and buy a few extra copies of
Second-hand Tales and More Second-hand Tales. You can get it directly
from me hen you see me at a performance, or all over the Upper
Valley from Booked Solid in Bradford VT, the Norwich Bookstore
in Norwich VT, and Mini Kids Corp in Lebanon, and to Chapman's
Store in Fairlee VT. If you live in the Montpelier region you
can find my first CD at a wonderful shop called Woodbury Mountain
Toys. Support your local businesses. If you cannot get to these
stores and love the excitement of on-line shopping, then go to:
www.cdbaby.com/cd/simonbrooks and snag a few copies (although
not locally owned, it kind of is)! You can also safely get to
CDBaby from my website.

folks who invest in the Upper Valley (and Montpelier) which is
a great thing.
Well, that's
all for now.
Peace,
Simon
